Campaigns & promotional periods

You are invited to a TikTok Shop campaign – you do not sign up.

The recurring promotional periods on TikTok Shop are the highest-traffic days of the month. Go in prepared and that is where your sales peak happens. Merely register and you get nothing out of the traffic.

„Deals für dich“: the most important recurring campaign

It runs around the turn of the month – usually between the 25th and the 5th, on average just under ten days. The exact dates change from month to month.

In that window, traffic on TikTok Shop is considerably higher than during the rest of the month. For a brand that means sales peaks almost always happen in those days, not between them. Anyone running the channel seriously plans the year along these windows – not the other way round.

Because the period recurs, it can be planned for. That is the decisive difference to a one-off event: range, stock, creator calendar and ad budget can all be aimed at a date that is coming round again anyway.

Who is allowed to take part?

Not everyone. Participation runs through an invitation from TikTok – there is no application from outside.

So it is not your own budget that decides whether a brand is visible during the highest-grossing days of the month, but whether TikTok has it on the radar. This is exactly where an agency connection has an effect.

What we can concretely do: as a gold status agency we have a direct line to TikTok Shop. We can put a merchant forward there, make the case for the potential and ask for an invitation to „Deals für dich“. We have done that several times. It is not a guarantee – but without this route there is often no route at all for an unknown brand.

The two conditions TikTok sets

An invitation alone is not enough. Anyone taking part has to meet two requirements – both with direct consequences for the calculation.

At least 5 % discount

TikTok sets a discount framework with a lower limit of 5 per cent. The reduction is set per product – either as a percentage or as an absolute amount.

In practice the lower limit is rarely the right number. Inside the campaign window the discount competes with every other participating offer; it has to fit the category, not the form.

GMV Max has to be running

During the deal period a GMV Max campaign must also be active. For this campaign, ads are not an option but a condition of entry.

That is why preparation cannot begin on the day of the campaign: GMV Max requires that sales have already happened and that enough approved videos exist. The requirements have to be in place beforehand.

The formal rules come from the platform. They are in the TikTok Shop Academy and can be read without a seller account. What is not in there: that in practice the invitation comes about through a partner agency's line, that six weeks of lead time is the lower limit rather than the recommendation, and that 5 per cent discount is too little to stand out in most categories.

Why six weeks of lead time

Because several mechanisms interlock in a promotional period – and every one of them has its own lead time.

  1. Product selection and discount logic. Which items go into the campaign, at what reduction, and does the margin still carry it – after platform commission and creator payouts.
  2. Secure stock. Inventory has to be in place before the window. A product that sells out on day three gives away the rest of the run.
  3. Align the creator calendar. Videos have to land inside the window, not after it. Weeks pass before samples are shipped, videos filmed and published – see TikTok Shop management.
  4. Prepare GMV Max. The campaign needs sales history and approved videos before it can run meaningfully during the promotional period at all.
  5. Set live dates. Broadcasts inside the campaign window count double because traffic is higher anyway – but slots and hosts have to be booked in advance.

How registration works technically

The process itself takes minutes. It is the last step, not the first.

  • Open the campaigns area in Seller Center – it lists every promotion the account is approved for.
  • Select the participating products individually – there is no bulk approval for the whole catalogue.
  • Set the reduction per product, as a percentage or an absolute amount.
  • Register for the campaign.

Anyone starting at this point has already missed most of the work: stock, creator videos and GMV Max cannot be made up once the window is open.

The most common mistake

Registering without understanding how the campaign works.

A promotional period is not a discount switch. Several mechanisms interlock – discount, ad budget, creator content, stock and live dates – and the campaign only works when all five are in place at the same time. If one fails, the highest traffic of the month turns into a discount nobody sees.

This hits brands above all on their first participation. They treat the invitation as a confirmation rather than as a date – and therefore do not prepare at all.

Frequently asked questions

What is „Deals für dich“ on TikTok Shop?

A recurring promotional period that usually runs between the 25th of a month and the 5th of the next, on average just under ten days. Traffic in that window is considerably higher than during the rest of the month.

Can any merchant sign up for a TikTok Shop campaign?

No. Participation is by invitation from TikTok. An agency with gold status can put a merchant forward and ask for an invitation – that does not guarantee one.

How large does the discount have to be?

TikTok sets a framework with a minimum of 5 per cent. The reduction is set per product, as a percentage or an absolute amount. Whether 5 per cent is enough depends on the category and on the competing offers in the same window.

Do you have to run ads during the campaign?

Yes. TikTok requires a GMV Max campaign to be running during the deal period. Ads are therefore a condition of entry, not an add-on.

How far in advance should preparation start?

At least six weeks. Product selection, stock, creator videos and the requirements for GMV Max each need their own lead time and cannot be made up inside the window.

Where do you find the campaigns?

In Seller Center. It lists every promotion the account is approved for. Products are selected individually, the reduction is set per product, and registration follows.

Be ready before the next window

Six weeks of lead time means the next sensible starting point is before the month-end after next, not the next one.
